I won 2005/2006 Dream Team and while a lot comes down to luck and very few of the team getting injured, there are some tactics I used which others may or may not find useful.
1. Keep an eye on pre-season friendly form. I did this last season which made me pick Darren Bent and Bradley Wright-Phillips. I got a lot of points from one and was able to transfer the other out quite soon!
2. Make sure no-one is injured long term or generally injury prone. A former pick of mine, Darren Anderton, springs to mind here so I stayed well away from them.
3. I don't like picking players with bad disciplinary records as eventually they end up playing less games which costs you vital points as do all the bookings.
4. Spread the back 5 over 3 teams only. Last year I had Jaaskalainen in goal with 2 Chelsea defenders and 2 West Ham defenders for most of the season. This maximises the chances of big scoring weeks and means only 3 teams have to keep clean sheets rather than 5 if players from different teams are picked. However...
5. It goes without saying that picking 2 defenders from Watford and Sheffield United might be a bit too risky and you'd end up with more minus points than clean sheets.
6. Picking goalscoring midfielders is important. Jimmy Bullard and Morten Gamst Pedersen supplemented Gerrard well last season.
7. I had 3 premium players last year being Terry, Gerrard and Henry and picked the rest from medium priced and a few risks (the West Ham defence) that paid off.
8. It doesn't matter too much if a couple of bad decisions are made in the original team as the first transfer window comes quickly. Le Tallec and Wright-Phillips were easy sacrifices at this stage last year!
9. Use transfers wisely but don't feel it is necessary just to change for sake of change. I only used 2 in January and it paid off in the end.
10. The most important element is to have fun and enjoy it all. Hope this helps but remember anyone can win.
It was only my 2nd year of Sun Dream Team last year and I only entered one team.
Good luck to everyone ut hopefully I'll retain my title!
